Information

Futurerestore, developed by Tihmstar, is a utility for iOS devices, enabling the downgrade or upgrade of 64-bit and 32-bit devices to unsigned iOS versions. This process relies on previously saved SHSH(2) files to validate the firmware installation.

When utilizing Futurerestore for downgrading iOS devices, the currently signed Secure Enclave Processor (SEP) versions restrict the available versions you can downgrade to. Compatibility with the signed SEP is essential for the downgrade process to succeed.

For instance, iOS 12.4.4’s Secure Enclave Processor (SEP) maintains compatibility with earlier versions down to iOS 11.3. This enables the downgrading of A7 and A8 devices to firmware versions ranging from iOS 11.3 up to iOS 12.4.4, provided that iOS 12.4.4’s SEP is currently signed.

Restores carried out with Futurerestore typically result in untethered configurations since they utilize a valid ApTicket for the restoration process. However, in certain instances, particularly with 32-bit downgrades, if invalid ApTickets or ApTickets from other devices are used, the device will need to be placed into PWNDFU mode and then tether booted.
